10 Iranian Universities Ranked in Shanghai Global Ranking

Ten universities from the Islamic republic of Iran have been ranked in the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, one of the most reliable global rankings of universities.

The University of Tehran ranked the highest among Iranian universities, coming in at 401-500 in the world ranking. Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Amirkabir University of Technology came in second and third, respectively, at 501-600 and 601-700.

The other Iranian universities that were ranked in the top 1000 in the world are:

• Sharif University of Technology (701-800)

• Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (901-1000)

• Iran University of Science and Technology (901-1000)

• Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (901-1000)

• Tarbiat Modares University (901-1000)

• Tabriz University (901-1000)

• Isfahan University of Technology (1001-1200)

• Payame Noor University (1001-1200)

• Bu-Ali Sina University (1001-1200)

• Mazandaran University (1001-1200)

The Shanghai Global Ranking is based on a number of factors, including the number of publications in top academic journals, the number of Nobel Prize winners and Fields Medal winners, and the number of highly cited researchers.

The ranking is considered to be one of the most reliable global rankings of universities, and the inclusion of 10 Iranian universities in the top 1000 is a testament to the quality of higher education in Iran.
