Iran Georgia Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Challenges Economic Ties

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili met on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland on January 17 2024.

Both ministers expressed their satisfaction with the meeting and highlighted the long history and strong ties between their nations.

Amirabdollahian emphasized Iran's commitment to developing relations with Georgia, stating that regional security, including Georgia's stability, is a top priority for Iran. He advocated for regional solutions to regional problems, highlighting the interconnected nature of regional security and the importance of focusing on shared interests to build cooperation with Georgia.

Recognizing Georgia's popularity as a tourist destination for Iranians, Amirabdollahian stressed the need to leverage these connections to expand commercial and private sector cooperation.

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili echoed Amirabdollahian's positive assessment of bilateral relations and welcomed the continued strengthening of ties. He expressed satisfaction with the consultations with his Iranian counterpart and emphasized the importance of regional stability and security for Georgia. Darchiashvili welcomed the strong ties between the Georgian and Iranian peoples, evident in the growing number of Iranian tourists visiting Georgia.

He further recognized Iran as a strong and influential nation in the region and reiterated Georgia's desire to expand bilateral cooperation across various fields.

Both ministers emphasized their intention to continue their joint contacts and discussions in areas of mutual interest.
