Iran Condemns Politically Motivated IAEA Resolution Announces Countermeasures
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) have issued a joint statement vehemently condemning the recent resolution adopted by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) spearheaded by the United States and the European E3 (France Germany and the United Kingdom). The joint statement asserts that this resolution is a politically motivated misuse of the IAEA forum lacking any technical or legal foundation.
The statement reiterates Iran's unwavering adherence to its safeguard commitments, highlighting that no IAEA report has ever cited non-compliance or diversion in Iran's nuclear materials or activities. Despite recognizing the IAEA Director General's report as "entirely political and biased," Iran argues that the resolution’s key provisions contradict even this report. Iran emphasizes that these four countries, unable to identify ambiguities in Iran's current nuclear activities, have resorted to re-emphasizing claims from over 25 years ago, which were officially closed under the November 2015 IAEA resolution. This is particularly concerning as these nations remain silent on the Zionist regime's unchecked development of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, and its threats against peaceful nuclear facilities of NPT member states. The statement also points out the failure of the U.S., UK, and France to fulfill their nuclear disarmament obligations under Article VI of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), while Germany continues to host these deadly and inhumane weapons. The joint statement asserts that these actions severely undermine the credibility and integrity of the IAEA, further exposing its politicized nature. Iran warns that such political treatment of a country consistently adhering to its commitments and engaging in extensive cooperation with the Agency indicates that a policy of engagement yields counterproductive results. The Islamic Republic of Iran extends its gratitude to the IAEA Board of Governors members who voted against or abstained from the resolution and unequivocally condemns the political actions of those who voted in favor. In response to this "political resolution," the AEOI has received directives from its head to establish a new enrichment facility in a secure location and to replace the first-generation IR-1 centrifuges at the Dr. Shahid Alimohammadi (Fordow) enrichment facility with advanced sixth-generation machines. Further countermeasures are being planned and will be announced subsequently.
